BRIEF: Airport rehearsal program at LVIA gives people with autism a chance to travel

Morning Call - 3/20/2018

March 20--The fourth annual "Wings for All," which provides people with autism and other developmental disabilities a rehearsal for possible air travel, will be held on Saturday, May 5, at Lehigh Valley International Airport.

The Arc of Lehigh and Northampton Counties will present the program in collaboration with the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority and Allegiant Air.

"For families who thought they would never be able to travel by air, this event provides hope," Karen Shoemaker, The Arc's executive director, said in a news release. "The rehearsal takes place right in their own community and makes air travel a true possibility for them."

Families will practice entering the airport, getting boarding passes, going through security, and boarding a plane. The program also provides a learning experience for airport, airline and Transportation Security Administration workers.

Registration is required. Sign up at arcoflehighnorthampton.org.
