BRIEF: Mayor's disability awareness committee adopts new logo

Aberdeen American News (SD) - 7/28/2014

July 27--The Mayor's Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities evaluated five logo submissions and chose a submission by Cody Wells.

Committee member Marianne Dale said the group's previous logo promoted their efforts to make Aberdeen barrier free by 2010.

"We wanted something new to put on our decals," she said.

The mayor's advisory committee works on educating the community about making places more accessible for people with disabilities.

"We teach about how to be disability friendly," she said.

The group works with the city on where to place curb cuts to improve sidewalk accessibility and is working on making Melgaard Park more accessible, Dale said. Efforts at the park include playground and bathroom accessibility.

The group also assists people with disabilities in finding employment and evaluates businesses for accessibility.
