BRIEF: St. Croix Valley volunteers needed to rake leaves for seniors, disabled

Saint Paul Pioneer Press - 9/6/2018

Sept. 07--Hundreds of volunteers are needed to rake yards and bag leaves for seniors and people with disabilities in the St. Croix River Valley.

Rake a Difference Day, sponsored by the nonprofit Community Thread, will be Oct. 27, but volunteers can work with homeowners to schedule a different raking time before or after the event.

Last year, Community Thread organized 250 volunteers to rake for nearly 50 people. Volunteer groups typically include families, scout troops, service clubs, school groups and businesses, said Allissa Obler, development and communications director for Community Thread.

People who want to have their lawns raked and people interested in volunteering can call 651-439-7434 or visit communitythreadmn.org.

The deadline to register to have a yard raked is Oct. 5; the deadline to register to volunteer is Oct. 10.
