Alzheimer's Tennessee To Host Workshop In Johnson City

The Greeneville Sun - 7/10/2018

Alzheimer's Tennessee Inc. will have its "Caring and Coping" caregiver workshop in Johnson City this week.

The workshop offers support and strategies for both family and professional caregivers, a news release says.

The workshop will be Thursday at Boones Creek Christian Church, 305 Christian Church Road, Johnson City.

It will give attendees a better understanding of the disease and why certain things occur. Participants will learn practical tips to assist in caring for individuals living with dementia while maintaining their own health during the course of the disease, the release said.

Karen Stobbe, from Black Mountain, North Carolina, will be the speaker. Caring for both parents diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease is what inspired her to educate and empower other caregivers, the release says. Her topics will include an overview of Alzheimer's and related dementias; "Sometimes Ya Gotta Laugh:caring for the caregiver and keeping perspective"; and, behavioral interventions and communication strategies.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. The welcoming ceremony starts at 8:30 a.m. There will be a lunch break, and the conference should end around 4:30 p.m.

For planning purposes, advance registration is required. Respite care is provided on-site at no charge, the release says.

The cost is $25 for family caregivers and $45 for healthcare professionals for which six credits are available. Scholarships are available to family caregivers. The fee includes materials, lunch and refreshments.
