Good Samaritan gets special site visit

ALGONA - Good Samaritan Society of Algona, a senior living community, received a site visit from nationally recognized gerontologist, author and international expert Dr. Allen Power as part of the Targeting Training Intervention 360.

TTI 360 is a grant project with the goal of improving access to dementia care and quality of dementia care.

Alzheimer's Association Greater Iowa Chapter executive director Doug Bickford praised the staff and administrators at Good Samaritan Society for finding innovative approaches to memory care. "This grant has provided access to promising practices and expert training to support the excellent day-to-day care residents in Algona receive," said Bickford.

TTI 360 is a grant provided in January 2018 from the Iowa Department of Human Services. Ten senior living communities were selected to participate in the program, with each community receiving:

· Training in Des Moines by Dr. Power-two days for caregivers, half-day for leadership and a webinar for the Medical Director

· 80 hours of organizational based training by Lyn Hilgenberg, certified dementia trainer to assist in implementation of new approaches

· Site visit by Dr. Allen Power, Lyn Hilgenberg, and Alzheimer's Association program director Linda Brown to provide additional support

· Program Evaluation for each location completed by Iowa State University

Dr. Allen Power is based in Rochester, N.Y., and uses the new Domains of Well-Being to address dementia care.

TTI 360 ends this fall.
