Nursing home resident charged with misdemeanor battery

Clay Center Dispatch - 5/23/2018

May 22--A man who is a resident of a nursing home, appeared in Clay County District Court on a battery charge Monday.

Albert Cadoret, a wheel-chair bound resident of the Wakefield Rehabilitation Center, appeared in court on the misdemeanor. Two employees of the nursing home appeared with him, and told the court that Cadoret understands what is going on, he has difficulty hearing and is incapable of speaking or signing his name.

Cadoret is charged with misdemeanor battery for striking another nursing home resident, County Attorney Rick James said.

District Magistrate Judge entered a not guilty plea on Cadoret's behalf, appointed him an attorney and set his case for a status hearing on June 27.

In other cases, Ashley Knitter appeared on old case that was dismissed and has since been re-filed with new information. She is charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also assigned a court-appointed attorney and will be set for a preliminary hearing at the convenience of her attorney.

Samatha Fetters appeared on a motion to revoke her probation in a felony case and was set for a probation violation hearing before District Judge John Bosch on July 12.
