Stuart News - 3/14/2018

PORT ST. LUCIE – The Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony at 2 p.m. on March 20 for the Ardie R. Copas State Veterans' Nursing Home.

The new 120-bed state veterans' home will be located near 10700 SW Tradition Parkway in the Port St. Lucie community of Tradition.

Parking will be adjacent to the ceremony site.

A reception will immediately follow the ceremony at Tradition Town Hall, 10799 SW Civic Lane.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony and reception will take place at Tradition Town Hall.

"It's extremely gratifying to see the project break ground," said St. Lucie County Commission Chair Frannie Hutchinson, "thanks to the enormous community effort over the past few years to turn this dream into a reality. This facility will be a blessing for our veterans and their families – not just from St. Lucie County, but from the entire region."

The Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs will be joined by local officials from St. Lucie County and the City of Port St. Lucie as well as Martin Health System, which has agreed to help sponsor the event.
