Clinical trials set at Mariposa Point

Surprise Independent - 3/13/2018

Surpass Senior Living, parent company to Mariposa Point communities, has announced a partnership with Cognitive Clinical Trials (CCT), a firm that brings memory care trial research directly to the patient.

Mariposa Point of Surprise will roll out the program, which involves CCT researchers traveling to the property to conduct Alzheimer's and dementia trials from the comfort of their community. CCT hires physicians, clinical research coordinators and raters to take care of on-site analysis.

"We've long made memory care an important component to our care doctrine," said Sevy Gambs, vice president of operations for Surpass Senior Living. "When the opportunity to partner with Cognitive Clinical Trials presented itself, we felt it made a lot of sense for the comfort of our residents."

More than 5 million people in the United States are living with Alzheimer's, and while treatment research is constantly looking for qualified patients, a caveat has long existed in getting them to a prospective research site.

"We saw the need to make it easier for the elderly with memory issues to get to research sites and thought why not bring our researchers to them," said Nick Bruggeman, founder and vice president of operations for Cognitive Clinical Trials. "With this partnership with Mariposa Point, we're excited to see how this changes our research for the better."

The program will be available to residents of all Mariposa Point communities, regardless of the level of memory care.
