Hideaway unveils pizza to help save monarchs

Hideaway Pizza is joining efforts to save the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with the seasonal release of its honey-drizzled specialty pizza, The Pollinator, until May 14.

Nearly 75 percent of the world's crops require pollination, and pollinator populations have declined in recent years. Oklahoma and Arkansas both lie within the migratory path of the monarch butterfly.

Hideaway will donate 10 percent of proceeds from sales of The Pollinator to support "Okies for Monarchs," an initiative of the Oklahoma Monarch & Pollinator Collaborative, a statewide group of more than 40 organizations working together to protect and enhance suitable habitat for pollinators in Oklahoma.

The Pollinator features an olive oil and garlic glaze, pepperoni, spicy capicola, salami and banana peppers atop fresh mozzarella and a parmesan-herb shake, then drizzled with honey.

Hideaway will also host a free public education series, called "Monarch Meetups," in Norman and Yukon where families can learn from local experts how to plant and maintain their own monarch gardens.
