Diabetes Support Group

Thursday, Oct. 19, 4 to 5 p.m.

Managing diabetes is challenging. Monitoring glucose levels, maintaining a healthy diet, exercising regularly and balancing medications are challenges most people with diabetes deal with every day. Diabetes can be overwhelming. It is tough to change lifelong habits and often the benefits are far in the future. For many people, meeting with other people who are experiencing the same challenges is a positive and effective way to discuss diabetes issues. There are strategies that can help.

Karen Cole, RN, BSN, Certified Diabetes Educator facilitates a monthly Diabetes Support Group.

This is an open forum for diabetes related discussion will be held. This is a free support group and family and friends are welcome.

Women's Cancer Support Group

Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2 to 3 p.m.

Claxton-Hepburn

Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center's Richard E. Winter Cancer Center is offering a Women's Cancer Support Group. The support group is facilitated by Jessica Morley, MA, social services coordinator. The group meets on the second Wednesday of every month from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Winter Cancer Center. For questions, call the Winter Cancer Center at 315-393-2314.

Ostomy Support Group

Thursday, Nov. 9, 1 to 2 p.m.

Claxton-Hepburn

When a person undergoes an ostomy surgery they experience the anxiety and distress associated with a sudden and significant alteration in elimination function and self-image.

The support group offers the opportunity to speak with a person with a wider range of experience with an ostomy. Advice, information and emotional support can be gained from people who have gone through a similar experience, and to improve their skills in managing the ostomy.
