Alta nursing home opens Alzheimer's unit

ALTA, Iowa ? Welcov Assisted Living, in Alta, has opened a special unit dedicated to serving people who have Alzheimer's disease.

The secured unit opened Sept. 1 and provides three family-style meals a day, exercise and self-care, continuous activities and conversation allowing an enhanced quality of life for people with Alzheimer's.

Additionally, Welcov executive director Rebecca Wolf obtained her certification to be a Positive Care Approach Trainer through one of America's leading dementia educators, Teepa Snow. All the staff at Welcov have completed the required eight hours of dementia-specific education and are now in place to provide specialized care in the dementia unit.
