Boone to host workshop on NC Public Transportation Plan

The Watauga Democrat - 10/2/2017

RALEIGH ? The North Carolina Department of Transportation will host a community workshop in Boone for the public to provide feedback regarding the Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Program, which is part of the North Carolina Statewide Locally Coordinated Plan.

The workshop, which is for the Northern Mountains district, will take place Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Blue Ridge Energy Meeting Room at 2491 U.S. 421 S. in Boone.

According to the NCDOT, this federal program provides funding to states, small or large urban areas and rural areas to assist private nonprofit groups in meeting the transportation needs of older adults and people with disabilities when the transportation service provided is unavailable, insufficient or inappropriate to meeting these needs.

"Its goal is to improve bus, rail and paratransit services across the state by better matching transit services to the needs of North Carolinians," the NCDOT said in a statement.

The free public workshops do not require pre-registration. Other workshops are taking place in Greenville, Dublin, Concord and Asheville.

The NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Jamille Robbins, Human Environment Section, via email at jarobbins@ncdot.gov or by phone at (919) 707-6085 as early as possible so that arrangements can be made.
