Virtual dementia tour opens

Beloit Daily News - 6/21/2017

JANESVILLE - The community is invited to the EMS Center, 580 N. Washington Ave., Janesville from 3:30 - 5 p.m. on Friday, June 23 and Thursday, June 29 to take a walk in the shoes of someone with dementia through the use of the internationally known Virtual Dementia Tour.

The Virtual Dementia Tour is a 10 minute sensory experience that gives those with full cognition the ability to understand what the disease of dementia sounds, looks and feels like. The tour uses educational resources and sensory stimulation to provide family and professional caregivers a way to experience the challenges faced by those living with dementia.

Created by Second Wind Dreams, the Virtual Dementia Tour is scientifically proven to increase knowledge and understanding of those caring for individuals with dementia.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with the tour specialists and don patented devices that alter their senses. They are then given tasks and an adapted environment, which allows them to experience the physical and mental challenges those with dementia face every day. This free event is sponsored by Azura Memory Care and the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Rock County.

To make a reservation, call Sheila Stephens at 608-295-2764.
