Americare Senior Living joins 'The Longest Day' as a 2019 Global Team Sponsor

Jun. 10--On June 21, Americare Senior Living communities, including Harmony Gardens in Warrensburg, across their 5-state footprint will raise funds and awareness to advance Alzheimer's Association care, support and research programs as a Global Team for "The Longest Day.'

"Americare Senior Living is honored to support the Alzheimer's Association's efforts to raise awareness and funds in the fight against Alzheimer's disease," Americare Senior Vice President Jean Summers stated. "Many of Americare's residents and employees have been affected by this devastating disease and recognize the importance of participating in activities, such as 'The Longest Day,' that help bring Alzheimer's disease out of the shadows."

"The Longest Day" is held on the day with the most light -- the summer solstice.

Thousands of participants across the world will come together to fight the darkness of Alzheimer's through an activity of their choice.

Americare Senior Living communities will host many activities with staff, residents and families to shine a light on the 5.7 million Americans living with Alzheimer's disease and the more than 16 million family members and friends providing care and support.

Key facts about Alzheimer's disease include:

--Alzheimer's disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States.

--More than 5 million Americans are living with the disease.

--16 million family members and friends provide unpaid care to people with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia in the United States.

--Every 65 seconds, someone in the United States develops Alzheimer's disease.

--In 2017, friends and family members of those with Alzheimer's disease provided an estimated 18.4 billion hours of unpaid care, a contribution valued at $232 billion.

--In 2018, Alzheimer's and other dementias will cost the United States an estimated $277 billion. This number is expected to rise to $1.1 trillion by 2050.
