ADA seminar set for repeat presentation

Albany Herald - 4/1/2019

April 01-- Apr. 1--ALBANY -- An encore half-day seminar about the Americans with Disabilities Act scheduled Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Riverfront Resource Center is again attracting code officials, architects, engineers and others responsible for building accessibility from across south Georgia.

The seminar was presented for the first time in Albany in January to a maximum capacity response. It was decided to offer it again since multiple requests were received from those who did not have the opportunity to attend the event in January.

"Design professionals and code enforcement officials have the responsibility to apply the handicap code to all buildings and site development," Albany architect David Maschke, who organized the event, said. "This seminar is provided to help them have a more thorough understanding of the code, its application, and importance to the general community and citizens with all types of disabilities."

Maschke noted that the Georgia State Financing and Investment Commission is providing the speaker and that Dougherty County is providing the facility for the event.

The seminar is entitled "ADA 101: The Law, Design and Technical Support." It is being presented by Senior ADA Architect Steven R. Jones, who provides technical assistance and training on issues of accessibility in the built environment to all state of Georgia entities, local code enforcement officials, design professionals, property owners and the general public. Jones joined the ADA Coordinator's Office team in October of 2013.

The seminar and parking for the event are free, and attendees may earn Continuing Education Credits.

For more information, contact Maschke online at davidm@maschke.com or call (229) 888-3421.
