Hutchinson injury lawyer sued for fall at his home

The Hutchinson News - 12/24/2018

Dec. 24--The mother of Hutchinson injury lawyer Matthew Bretz has filed suit against her son seeking damages after a fall at his home.

Janice Bretz filed the suit Thursday seeking more than $75,000.

According to the suit, the fall occurred after sunset Aug. 16, 2017, while she was going down a set of outdoor stairs at Bretz's home on Hawthorne Lane.

Bretz, 73, suffered a broken arm, fractured ribs and a compression fracture to her spine, the suit states.

The suit alleges the stairs were poorly lit, had no handrails or "visual clues which would allow a person to safely navigate the stairs under the conditions existing at the time."

The suit also alleges the homeowner failed to replace light bulbs on the left side of the stairs "even though the defendant had prior notice such lights were burned out."

The suit, filed by Carl Wagner with the Patterson Legal Group in Wichita, seeks damages for personal injury, disability, pain and suffering, loss of income and medical expense, past and future.

The News was unable to reach Wagner and Matthew Bretz declined to comment.
